from a structural approach, where random, individual words and phrases are
tested (e.g. 填写汉字). This would reduce the need for and unnecessary burden of

communicative approach where students’ ability to use CL in context is
assessed. This is likely to improve a student’s ability to retain the language
and use it effectively. “

Chinese tutor profile
Ms ZXM has 6 years of full-time Chinese tutoring
experience. She attended RGS and has a Bachelor’s from NUS, majoring in Chinese
and Chinese Literature. Ms ZXM teaches Chinese and Higher Chinese and is a
Bicultural Scholarship holder. She was also a Chinese debate coach. Her
students attended Ai Tong School, CHIJ (Kellock), Christ Church Secondary
School, Hwa Chong Institution (Integrated Programme), Nanyang Junior College
and Eunoia Junior College.
The Chinese exams
Many of the Chinese concepts and principles are actually
deeply and closely linked to the next. Others are completely disparate.
To do well in Chinese, students need teachers who
