Chinese tutor profile
Ms TYG is NIE-trained and was an MOE Chinese
Language Scholar. She has a Bachelor’s from NUS, majoring in Business
(Honours). Ms TYG taught Chinese at a junior college in the East, and has 6
years of Chinese teaching experience. She is now a full-time Chinese tutor. Her
students attended Bendemeer Primary School, Greendale Primary School, Rosyth
School, Chung Cheng High School (Yishun), Methodist Girls’ School (Secondary), Hougang

MOE requirements for Chinese exams
The MOE states that “Our students will find CL an
interesting and vibrant language only if they have occasion to hear, see and
use CL beyond the school context. Community and media organisations have an
important part to play in creating situations in society where students find it
natural and necessary to use the language skills and cultural knowledge they
learned in school.”
Almost all students go through this – some concepts
in Chinese start to get confusing because we have not been able to catch up
with the teacher’s lessons in class.
We go home, read and re-read the notes, the
worksheets, and do some research on the internet after our classmates tell us
on whatsapp chat that they too are feeling lost.
We tried, took the exam, and then our Chinese
results are returned to us. Not a good grade.
